Fundraising

Our Scout Group flourishes because of its enthusiastic young members, dedicated team leaders, its supporters and its unique site. Termly subscriptions (subs) cover the day to day running of the sections and our membership of the Scout Association. In addition, we also raise money to fund activities and projects in other ways, often involving the young members themselves and parents. We have held sponsored events, family barbecues and quiz nights.

The Scout Group uses a variety of ways to raise money, including online donations, donate as you shop, donations by post and legacy gifts.

Raising Funds for the Phoenix 3 Project

In 2014 we completed our Phoenix 2 Project which replaced our previous Phoenix Hut with a fantastic new building. The new building development has given the Scout Group a new Phoenix Hall and additional rooms.

We are now working on plans for Phoenix 3, a project to replace the remaining older buildings on the site, the Explorer Hut and the Garage Stores with modern buildings connected to the Phoenix 2 development. We are at the planning stage for Phoenix 3 and already welcome any fundraising to help us complete this ambitious plan and create a site to provide Scouting and other community activities for future generations.

Online Donations

You can donate online via CAF Donate (Charities Aid Foundation). Here you can choose to give a one-off gift or set up a regular giving account.

You can also donate online via Crowdfunder, again with a one-off gift or set up a regular giving account.

We really appreciate all the donations, which all help to provide additional facilities and equipment for all the sections.

Donate As You Shop Online

Give As You Live is a great way of raising money for the Scout Group - every time you make an online purchase with your usual shops such as Argos, Waitrose, Sainsbury's, Booking.com, in fact over 6,000 of the UK's leading online shops, your purchase will automatically generate a free donation for the Scout Group. It won't cost you any more, and you don't have to buy anything you wouldn't normally buy.

If you nominate the 19th Wimbledon Scout Group as a beneficiary, every time you use Give As You Live to shop, these companies automatically donate a percentage of your shopping bill to the Scout Group. Please click on the logo below for more information and to set up a Giver account and support us now.

Remember whenever you shop online, click via Give As You Live into any of the shops first and you'll generate a free donation - it's that simple.

Donations by Post

Alternatively you can send your donation as a cheque, made payable to the '19th Wimbledon Scout Group'.  Please email admin@19thwimbledonscouts.co.uk for details on where to send your cheque. Please don't send cash in the post!

If you would like to talk to someone about your donation, please contact the Group Chair, Ros Barnes (chair@19thwimbledonscouts.co.uk).

Legacy Gifts

If you would like to consider including the 19th Wimbledon Scout Group in your will, the Scout Association have published a useful booklet which you can view here as a pdf file.

Generally, the Scout Association recommends that any gift in your will, intended for a specific Scout Group, should be given to the Scout Association stating where the legacy should go (e.g. the 19th Wimbledon Scout Group). When the Scout Association receive a legacy with this request they automatically send it on to the Scout Group concerned. Further details, including wording for your will and a simple codicil form are included in the Legacy Information Booklet.

Don't forget to Gift Aid it

Gift Aid is a simple government initiative which allows you to increase the value of your donations at no extra cost to you. For every pound you give, the 19th Wimbledon Scout Group can claim an extra 25 pence from HM Revenue & Customs, helping your donation to go further.

To be eligible to sign up for Gift Aid you must be a UK taxpayer and pay an amount of income and/or capital gains tax – at least equal to the tax that the charity will reclaim in the tax year. This also applies if you pay tax on your savings, pension plan or investment income.

HM Revenue & Customs regards membership subscriptions as 'donations' and the Scout Group can claim Gift Aid on these fees. The Group can also get Gift Aid on money donated for sponsored events. Gift Aid is not available on camp fees because the benefit to the 'donor' is regarded as too high to qualify for the scheme. If you have not claimed Gift Aid before, you are entitled to claim back the previous four years of contributions.

When sending a donation by post please complete our Gift Aid registration form - which can be downloaded here as a pdf file.
