Explorer Scouts
We are the Raynes Park Explorer Scout Unit (RPESU). Explorer Scouts is for 13 ½ to 18 year olds, both boys and girls. We meet throughout the year, weekly on a Thursday night (7.30-9.15pm), as well as having weekend and week long activities. We are not strictly part of the 19th Wimbledon Scout Group although we have very close links with them. We accept young people with or without a Scouting background from all local areas.
Lucy (mob: 07754 125 963) is the Explorer Scout Leader at Raynes Park and Keith is the Assistant Leader. Together, with a few other helpers and the Exec Committee (made up of 4 Explorer Scout members), they run the RPESU.
Our weekly programme covers a very wide variety of activities that run at the hut and at other venues. We do pretty much everything including cooking, climbing, watersports, wide games, bowling, quizzes, indoor and outdoor games, crafts, camp fires, dancing, eating, scouts skills, ice skating, celebrating festivals and cultural events such as Burns Night, Christmas, Easter, Chinese New Year and St. Patrick's Day.
For our weekend activities we do lots of mountaineering and hiking as well as activity weekends to places like PGL. We also take part in County and District events; like Redflare Night Exercise and District Camps.
Traditionally we have a week long activity camp in the Summer. This has been all over the world including Bournemouth, Lake District, Scotland, Dublin, Switzerland. On these trips we offer more extreme activities such as windsurfing, sea kayaking, white water rafting, canyoning, caving, over night expeditions, trips to theme parks etc etc.. Our next big trip is a ski trip to France over new year, which we are very excited about!
We also focus on award work, including the Scout Awards and Duke of Edinburgh's Bronze, Silver and Gold. We aim to run expeditions for all of these levels each year. We also complete different Scout proficiency badges in our weekly programme.
Most of all, we always have fun, make life-long friends and enjoy the challenge of Explorer Scouting!
